Canon today unveiled five new cameras starting with two important new digital SLRs with the Canon EOS 100D / SL1 which is simply the smallest APS-C DSLR ever designed, the Canon EOS 700D / Rebel T5i which takes over the EOS 650D / T4i improving its technical characteristics via a faster fps in burst mode, a slightly enhanced autofocus with full cross-type sensors and a multitouch LCD screen, swiveling like before. These two new DSLRs come with a new version of the basic 18-55mm IS kit zoom lens which is enhanced by the adoption od the STM AF motorization that has appeared last year on the Canon EOS 650D / T4i, the new Canon EF-S 18-55 mm F/3.5-5.6 IS STM will also be sold separately. Apart from these new DSLRs, Canon introduce today the new Powershot SX280 HS and Powershot SX270 HS, two digital compact ultrazoom cameras inaugurating the new DIGIC 6 processor which should offer new perspectives as Full HD video in 60p like the most advanced Sony compact cameras, in conjunction with a powerful optical zoom offering a versatile travel-ready focal length range 20x. The SX280 HS is also equipped with WiFi connexion and a GPS sensor.
Both Canon DSLRs announced today will be available late April 2013. The Canon EOS 100D / SL1 and the Canon EOS 700D / T5i are both sold at the exact same price. You will have the choice between a little more advanced camera with improved performances, the EOS 700D / SL1 or a really super compact ultra light DSLR if you are ready to make some slight compromises on its performance and ergonomics, this for the same price. You will notice that the EOS 100D / SL1 is not the entry-level product of digital SLR in Canon amateur range. Both cameras are therefore sold body only €799 and €899 with the new EF-S 18-55mm STM zoom lens. That is true if you buy them in Europe. If you are in the US, the SL1 will be sold $799 with the new 18-55mm STM lens and the Rebel T5i will be priced at €899 with the lens as well. The lens alone will also be launched late April at a price of €199.
On the ultrazoom compact digital cameras area, the PowerShot SX280 HS, with Wi-Fi, will be available at a price of €329 from the end of April, like the SX270 HS, which it will be sold €299.
