Panasonic’s 2013 waterproof digital camera, the new Lumix DMC-FT5 follows the lead set by the TZ40 in replacing the TZ30: boosting connectivity with new Wi-Fi and NFC technologies.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT5: a tough player
The new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT5 is quite a rugged device. Panasonic is announcing it can dive 12 meters under water, withstand a 2 meter drop and endure pressure reaching 100kg. The Lumix FT5 will keep shooting even in the cold, holding out against low temperatures, down to -10°C.
The Panasonic FT5, digital imaging
When it comes to photo and video performance, the Panasonic FT5 features a back-illuminated CMOS sensor that allows it to reach high ISO sensitivities without loosing much image quality in low-light, an important feature for underwater photography. The ultra-wide angle Leica lens starts at 25mm. The 5x optical zoom covers a 25-100mm range and features the POWER O.I.S. Optical image stabilizer. The Panasonic FT5 also boasts high quality video performance, recording Full HD, 50p movies.
Wi-Fi & NFC
The most noteworthy improvements in the new generation waterproof Panasonic compact cameras are definitely their connectivity technologies in that they are Wi-Fi and NFC enabled. Like the Panasonic TZ40, the FT5 features integrated Wi-Fi connectivity for instant photo sharing and storing. Whether you want to share your photos via your favorite social network or store them instantly to the cloud, you can do so directly via Wi-Fi, or even use Wi-Fi to access your phone’s 3G or 4G connection. The Panasonic FT5 also comes NFC-enabled making setup as easy as touching your camera to your phone.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT5: Pricing and Availability
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT5 will be available end of March 2013 in three different colors: orange, black or blue with a list price announced at 399 euros (including taxes).
