Canon EOS 60Da : for astrophotography

Apr 03, 2012 No Comments by

The Canon EOS 60Da is the same camera as the EOS 60D Canon launched a year ago, featuring the APS-C 18-MP with swivel screen DLSR, but adapted for astrophotography : Canon have changed its low-pass filter to lower the infrared filter in order to have a camera more sensitive to reds and able to reproduce the red colors of far far away nebulae of deep sky emitted by their ionized hydrogen. The camera is better at capturing the H-alpha wave length (Hα) of the light’s spectrum. It replaces the previous astrophotography DSLR, the EOS 20Da. Combined with the optional remote control (Canon TC-80N3), the Canon EOS 60Da can record multiple images at fixed interval, a method often used to compile weekly lit images.

Apart from this the EOS 60Da is fully similar to the EOS 60D with the same DIGIC 4 processor that processes the 18-MP signal of the APS-C sensor in 14-bit, the same 1080p video mode, the same 3:2 swivel screen… but whereas we could have expected a sensibility jump, the EOS 60Da offers the same limits as the EOS 60D : ISO 100-6,400, expendable to ISO 12,800. Its swivel screen will come handy when you wish to view your images while the camera is still attached to the telescope thanks to a T-ring adapter.

Canon EOS 60Da price and availability

The EOS 60Da will hit the shelves at the end of this month at a suggested retail price of $1,499 / €1,399 .

The Canon EOS 60Da is a DSLR engineered for astrophotography and deep sky images

Low-pass filter is the photography star this year : Nikon took it out of the D800 on the D800E, a mad genius has removed it from the Canon EOS 5D Mark III to measure the resolution jump, Fujifilm has suppressed it on the X-Pro1 while engineering a new matrix…
