Panasonic TS4 (FT4 in Europe) and TS20 (FT20 in Europe) waterproof cameras

Today, a few days before the CP+ trade show opens in Japan, Panaosnic unveils its new rugged compoact camera line up : the high performance TS4 and the lower priced TS20. Th efirst on ewould be my favorite of course, but regardless any budget consideration. It offers a better shock resistance and can do deeper for more serious underwater photography, but it also gets a high speed CCD which allow Full HD movie recording and a GPS… yes, I like GPS sensors in cameras, especially in this kind of camera, designed for outdoor activities and travel all around the globe. The Lumix TS4 comes with a location database with one million entries. For people on a buget but willing to buy a rugged waterproof, dustproof, shockproof camera, the Lumix TS20 could be the answer but its specs have really nothing that would make me go for this camera : conventional CCD sensor, 720p movies, smaller screen,…. well it actually has something the TS4 doesn’t have, a really wide short-focal length as it is gifted with a 25-100mm lens when the TS4 has a narrow, but longer, 28-128mm zoom lens.

  1. I like that TS20 for underwater photography. Must rock. But I think I will go for the Nikon Coolpix AW100 which is superior to the TS20/FT4 to me on the all-weather and rugged camera market.
